More About Liz
ARTIST BIO
Liz Comer Hess is a classically trained artist whose work captures the dynamic interplay of motion, emotion, and energy. Born and raised on a Black Angus cattle ranch in Southern Idaho, Liz developed an early fascination with both art and horses. This unique background shaped a path that combines the raw, unfiltered spirit of rural life with the refined sensitivity of a painter’s touch. Her art embodies the power of contrasts: complexity versus simplicity, power versus grace.
After earning a BFA in Studio Art and Design, Liz initially pursued a career in media and marketing, honing her skills as a creative strategist while painting for private clients. However, her true passion has always been art. In January 2024, she made the decision to leave her corporate role to dedicate herself fully to painting. Since then, Liz has immersed herself in her craft, allowing her work to evolve and flourish in ways she had always envisioned.
Describing her style as "Expressive Realism," Liz’s paintings often explore the silent energy of figures in motion. Her latest works delve into the complexities of the human condition—examining themes of life, expectations, and free will through the symbolic imagery of horses and florals. Her art reflects a deep exploration of these existential themes, inviting viewers to confront their own experiences and emotions.
As a lifelong equestrian, Liz draws inspiration from her time in the arena, channeling the discipline, focus, and emotion of equestrian life into her work. For Liz, painting is more than a vocation—it is a deeply personal journey and an ongoing practice. She approaches her work with the same dedication and curiosity she brings to her riding—always a student, always evolving. Her canvases are spaces where she explores the delicate balance between control and release, capturing fleeting moments of intensity and stillness.
Liz Comer Hess continues to push the boundaries of her art, striving to capture the essence of movement and the complexities of our human experiences.
